about

In Dominican folk religion, the figure of Santa Marta la Culebra appears as
a dark-skinned woman with a snake wrapped around her shoulders, and is
associated with powers related to love and attraction. In “La Culebra,”
Palotré takes inspiration from a melody sung to Santa Marta and
transforms it into an Afro-Dominican jazz burner.
